When we round to the nearest multiple of 1000 we need to think about the two multiples of 1000 the number sits between.

What is 1700 rounded to the nearest multiple of 1000?

Round 2140 to the nearest multiple of 1000.

Round 2580 to the nearest multiple of 1000.

Round 6551 to the nearest multiple of 1000.

The numbers of ones does not change so the digit stays the same

The ones digit moves one place to the left and a zero is put in the ones place as a place holder

When adding 1000, what happens to the ones digit?
