Specialist Numeracy

I’m Assistant Headteacher, Head of Secondary and Maths Curriculum Leader at an Outstanding 4-19 Generic Learning Difficulty Special School in Lancashire. I’ve been teaching since 2011 and have been fortunate to work in a variety of settings across Mainstream (Primary and Secondary), AP and Special. I’m the Numeracy Subject Leader at Oak and I’m looking forward to working with my team of Numeracy teachers to show you how numeracy can be found ’in the real world!’

Specialist Numeracy

Hello I’m Helen, a Numeracy Teacher at Oak. I’m thrilled to be working alongside the Numeracy Team and cannot wait to share some of our ideas of how to explore and discover numeracy in real life settings! I am a Mathematics Teacher and Subject Leader at an Outstanding special academy which caters for pupils with a range of learning needs aged 2 to 19 years. Prior to my current role which I have undertaken for 5 years, I enjoyed 4 years of teaching mathematics in a secondary mainstream setting. In my spare time, I can usually be found enjoying a long distance run or swimming with my children.

Specialist Numeracy

I have taught in special schools for eight years, and have taught a range of subjects and levels. However, I particularly enjoy Art and Design, and did my degree in Fine Art, and also enjoy teaching early maths. I have been an assistant head for two years and am also an SLE specialising in SEND. My passion comes from wanting to give every child a person-centred, individualised and high quality educational experience that will enable them to succeed now and in the future.
