Changing adolescent body: Puberty and menstrual wellbeing

In this lesson, we will re-cap the signs of puberty in both boys and girls, look at some key definitions relating to these changes, and try to understand more about the function and appearance of our reproductive organs as we become teenagers. 

Exploring puberty

In this lesson, we will learn about neutron growth and 'rewiring' in the brain that leads to emotional changes. We will also find out about something called the 'learning spurt'.  

The brain during puberty

In this lesson, we will learn about attraction caused by sex hormones. We will link this to ideas about body image and social behaviour, and explore normal emotions and behaviours in response to first sexual feelings.  

First sexual feelings

In this lesson, we will learn about the importance of regular washing and hygiene in relation to particular body parts as we become teenagers. 

Hygiene

In this lesson, we will learn about the typical cycle length of a period. We will look at reasons why periods are sometimes irregular, and the variety/choice of period products available. 

Menstrual health: expectations and period products

In this lesson, we will learn about what constitutes a 'heavy' period and why this can happen. We will also learn that sometimes periods can also be painful, and we will explore options to help cope with this.
