Internet safety and harms: Relationships and social media

This lesson will focus on identifying the positive effects of social media interactions and thinking about how online contact and friendships can be useful and valuable.

The positives of social media

This lesson will focus on issues with 'oversharing', including exposing our vulnerabilities, portraying ourselves as an untrue version of ourselves (and the challenges this brings), and not being sure about the true characteristics of the person/people we speak to online.

Issues with 'oversharing'

This lesson will focus on identifying the positives of both online and 'real life' friendships, when online friendships become problematic (e.g. continual need for attention or approval), and recognising the common healthy features of both kinds of relationship (online and 'real life').

Real life friendships in comparison to online friendships

This lesson will focus on 'influencers', including the definition (paid advertisers) and being aware that the lives depicted by influencers, and reviews of products, may not be fully representative of the truth.
